Fun Yard Games without Breaking the Bank

DIY Yard Games for the Entire Family

It’s summer, which means it’s time to get outside! This week, we’re going to give you some fun yard (and camping) games you and the family can enjoy in the outdoors! You won’t have to break the bank to build these fun games, and chances are the adults will have just as much fun as the kids. Read on!

1. Cornhole

Of course we had to mention the quintessential outdoor game first! You could certainly purchase a cornhole set online, but this quick guide can show you how to do it yourself as well. That way you can design your boards however you’d like, with your favorite sports teams or family pictures.

2. Giant Jenga

Timber! Yeah, this can take awhile to make, but the results are totally worth it. All you need is some plywood and sandpaper, and you’ll have a fantastic party game. If you haven’t played giant Jenga, you’re missing out!

3. Glow in the Dark Bowling

Great for a block party or when the kids are restless at night, glow-in-the-dark bowling is a simple game that only requires water bottles, a hamster ball and some glow sticks. Your kids will be able to help assemble this easy-to-do set.

4. Outdoor Tick-Tac-Toe

This inexpensive DIY game will provide plenty of entertainment for the whole family! It’s also portable, so you can easily bring it along on your next camping or road trip. It won’t take long to build, and you can design your board however you’d like!

5. Balloon Darts

Love carnival games? Us too. Balloon darts is an easy way to bring the fair right to your own backyard! All you need is a board, balloons, darts and a staple gun, and you’ll have fun for hours. Kids certainly love popping balloons, especially when they get to throw something at them!

6. Water Balloon Baseball

Speaking of balloons, water balloon baseball is an awesome backyard game that cools everyone down on hot summer afternoons. No, you probably won’t be able to play a “real” baseball game because the balloons explode on impact, but everyone will have plenty of fun.

7. Ice Block Treasure Hunt

This game is particularly good for young kids, as they get to develop their sensory awareness and reap the rewards of toys! It will take awhile to freeze your ice blocks, but the results are totally worth it.

8. Giant Lawn Matching Game

Board games are fantastic, especially when they’re giant and can be played outside! Decorate your own matching game and see who has the best memory! Just grab some cork tiles and paint, make your own stencils and you’ll have another great party game.

9. Lawn Twister

This quick and easy game will have everyone falling over with laughter! Use some washable paint (or spray paint) to make circles on the lawn, and you’ll make your next outdoor party one to remember.
